The Bund
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower completed in 1994 and standing 468 meters is the tallest TV tower in Asia and the third tallest in the world. it stands by the bank of Huangpu River.
The Oriental Pearl Tower consists of three big columns that are 9 meters in diameter the space module the upper sphere the lower sphere five small spheres tower base and the square.

The sightseeing floor in the brilliant upper sphere is 263 meters high and 45 meters in diameter; It is the best place to get a bird¡¯s eye view of Shanghai. in the upper sphere there are also the Revolving Restaurant the Disco Hall the Piano Bar (which are 267 meters high) and twenty KTV rooms (which are 371 meters high). The restaurant revolves one circle an hour.

The space module which towers into the sky has Sight£­seeing Floor Conference Hall and Coffee Bar in it. They are at the height of 350 meters. They are elegant and luxurious enjoying exceptional advantages. in the five spheres is the space hotel.

Jade Budaha Monastery
Jade Buddha Monastery is located at Anyuan Road in the west of the center of Shanghai city. Built in 1882 during the reign of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty it is a Buddhist monastery.
It covers a total area of 8400 square meters. The monastery has three halls namely the Heavenly King Hall the Grand Hall and the Abbot¡¯s Chamber. This famous Buddhist Monastery houses two jade statues of Sakyamuni. One is in a sitting position and the other is a reclining position. Both statues are of great artistic value and are regarded as treasures of Buddhism in our country.

Displayed in the Exhibition Room of the monastery are some Sutra texts stone£­caved statuettes painted portraits of Buddha a meticulously carved screen a sculpture carved with figures from Buddhist story etc. All these precious articles and cultural relics of Buddhism are rarely seen today.

Yu Yuan Garden
Yu Yuan Garden was first built in 1559 with an area of some 2 hectares. It appears much larger on account of skilful landscape gardening£­with paths winding through charming pavilions delightful grottoes beautiful lotus ponds quaint bridges and trickling streams. The art of decoration also finds expression in the brick engravings and woodcarvings everywhere in the garden that reflect the style of typical architecture of southern China in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The beautiful scenery can be compared with the four famous gardens in Suzhou.
No less than forty picturesque and fascinating scenes are found here. There are altogether five dragon walls in the garden each with a different posture separating different sections of scenery in the garden.

The Spring Hall in the garden was once made the headquarters of the Small Sword Society during its armed uprising in 1853. It is one of the major government £­protected cultural sites.

The Palace on the Moon is the most famous brick sculpture in the garden. The round relief on a wall represents several popular legends in connection with the moon.

The famous Town God¡¯s Temple (Chenghuang Miao) lies in the south of Yu Yuan Garden. It is dotted with groceries and snap stands. The buildings still preserve the old fashion with typical style and features of the old town market in the southern part of China.

The New Shanghai Museum
The new Shanghai Museum opened to the Public at the end of 1995 with a floor space of 120 000 square meters and a collection of 123 000 pieces of relics. It consists of 12 sections one library with 200000 volumes on history and fine arts and 380 seminar rooms. The 12 sections are devoted respectively to
£­£­Bronze ware featuring long inscriptions and writings.
£­£­Chinaware displaying porcelain pieces representative of various periods dating back as far as 8800 years ago.
£­£­Sculptures mainly stone carvings as well as well as gold and bronze statues of Buddha.

The Confucius Temple
Confucius was a great thinker in the Spring and Autumn period. Love (Ren) the rules of proper conduct (Li) filial piety (Xiao) and the doctrine of the mean (Zhongyong) are the four main topics of the moral teaching of Confucius. Over centuries it was believed that his teachings constituted the basis for a harmonious family community group state and society.

The Temple of Confucius in Beijing was first built by Kublai Khan in 1302 in the Yuan Dynasty and was restored on several occasions during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Covering a total area of 22 000 square meters the temple makes up four courtyards. The principal structures include Gate of Ancient Teacher Gate of Great Accomplishment Hall of Great Accomplishment and Worship Hall. It was the Hall of Great Accomplishment where Confucius was worshipped. The front courtyard is taken up by the Pavilions for Stone Tablets the Holy Kitchen and the Hall of Vegetarian Diet etc. On either side of the courtyard are arranged 198 stone tablets bearing 51 624 names of Advanced Scholars of the Yuan Ming and Qing dynasties who passed the triennial imperial examinations.

Nanjing Road
Along a short distance of five kilometer Nanjing Road are concentrated 400 shops of every sort that are visited by 1.5 million shoppers daily. Many of the stores are the largest in china. The No. 1 Department Store for example sells over 40000 categories of goods attracting 300 000 daily. Also located here are Shanghai¡¯s largest food shop fashion boutiques drugstore silk store lamp store bookstore and florists. Some of the city¡¯s finest hotels such as peace Huaqiao and international are also located on the street.

The street also boasts a variety of cultural spots such as libraries art galleries martial art clubs sports clubs acrobatics arenas and cinemas.
